The history of this estate is rooted in historic tales of fierce Native American hunting grounds, wild west pioneers and the first woman vintner of California in 1886. This winery pays homage to its history in Napa Valley as the pioneers before us did.
AXR Napa Valley is a partnership between four individuals (referred to as the FAB 4) including winemaker Jean Hoefliger, Don Van Laeken, Kelly Trevethan and Mark Schratz. AXR (Aramond x Rupestris) rootstock was an integral component of growing grapes in California’s modern wine industry. It also ties into the fact that Jean is originally from Switzerland – connecting both his European and American ‘roots’ so to speak.
