It’s present building was constructed in 1888 and intended as a barrel-aging facility. It has the feel and look of an Old World French winery with stone block building upon which Ivy Vines have grown.

Chateau Montelena wines were selected over many French wines during the 1976 Judgement of Paris. In 2008 a movie: “Bottle Shock” came out which relates some of the events that surrounded this famous blind wine tasting.  This fame brought Chateau Montelena and Napa Valley to the attention of wine lovers all over the world and helped propel Napa Valley to being the center of great wine production in California and for that matter, the world.
