Best Napa Valley Wineries Best Views

There are plenty of excellent wineries throughout the beautiful Napa Valley. However, one of the best features of this region are the mesmeric views on offer. If you are looking for views of Napa Valley, then you need to know the best wineries to visit.

I have grown up in this region and spent many years going to the different wineries across the region. So, I can say with confidence that these are the five Best Napa Valley Wineries best views by far:

Sterling Vineyards

Sterling Vineyards - one of the Best Napa Valley Wineries Best ViewsThe first stop on our journey is at the glorious Sterling Vineyards. This is one of the landmark wineries in Napa Valley, and it boasts a rich history. The wines here are known throughout the region for their unique and groundbreaking tastes. There is s a lot to offer here, with a plethora of wines readily available upon your arrival.

Instantly, you notice two things about this place: the location and the architecture.

Location-wise, you will find Sterling Vineyards on the top of a hill 300 feet above Calistoga. This is a quaint town in Napa Valley with plenty of other wineries in it. From an architectural standpoint, it is truly one of a kind. The white walls and tall bell towers make this feel like a European monastery. It has been inspired by the luxury Greek Island of Mykonos, and you certainly feel like you are on a lavish holiday!

Getting to this winery is an experience in itself. You are carried up an aerial tram, offering exceptional views before you have even set foot on the estate. To be honest, you could not have a drop of wine and still have a fantastic time through this experience alone! Obviously, I fully recommend that you try what is on offer and take a tour of the estate.

In fact, Sterling Vineyards offers a lot of tasting packages for you to book as well. This includes the Silver Experience, which gives you the aerial tram ride, a self-guided tour, and a seated wine tasting experience. There are plenty of other packages, each one offering something slightly different. All of the tasting experiences take place in the gorgeous tasting room that overlooks the entire Napa Valley.

That really is the USP of this winery. Its location allows you to see acre upon acre of stunning vineyards and towns. The mountains in the background make it all the more scenic, and you can sit and enjoy wine with a view. I love how you can see the valley grow smaller and smaller as you make your way to the winery in the tram. Then, you can relax on a terrace and have as much wine and food as you like!

CADE Estate Winery

CADE Estate Winery is the birthchild of Gavin Newsom, Gordon Gett, and Jon Conover. If you have heard of those names before, then it is because they also own the PlumpJack Estate Winery in Oakville. CADE has been around since 2005, and it is blessed with a phenomenal location. With a name inspired by Shakespeare, this winery promises to be a success.

It is situated upon the steep slopes of Howell Mountain. Instantly, this gives you panoramic views of the surrounding Napa Valley territories. In the last fifteen years, it has grown into a modern and well-respected winery in the region. The bottles it produces are highly popular amongst the locals due to their nuanced flavors. The high elevation lends itself to some excellent cabernet sauvignon.

If you are looking for the best views of Napa Valley, you are in a very good position. CADE Estate Winery is located some 1,800 feet above sea level. In fact, the owners state that it is above the fog line. This means you are quite literally up in the clouds – so be sure the weather is clear when you visit. As you step out on one of the viewing terraces, you are greeted to unbelievable views across the valley. See the green and vibrant vineyards, the lush vegetations, the local farmers, and the stunning mountains and hills. It is like you are looking at a postcard, but in real life!

The views of Napa Valley are beautiful, but the winery itself is equally gorgeous. It has to be one of the most unique and modern-looking estates out there. An interesting fact is that no wood was used when building this winery. Additionally, most of the materials used in construction were recycled. It is very much a green building, which matches the green views it provides. As you venture inside the estate, you will be taken to the wine cave. This has been excavated by an award-winning designer into a remarkable shape with loads of tunnels. If the views outside do not wow you enough, then the views in here certainly will.

Naturally, you can book many tours and tasting experiences at CADE. If you book the Tour & Tasting package, you will be taken to the winery and given a full tour of the whole estate. This allows you to experience all of the best views and how the wine is made. Then, you retire to a tasting room that overlooks the Napa Valley below. Alternatively, they offer a Library Experience where you sample some of the most iconic wines on their gravel terrace. If you are a fan of vintage and aged wines, then this is definitely the option for you.

Overall, CADE Estate Winery is living proof that you can still make great wine up in the mountains. Come for the best views of Napa Valley, but stay for excellent wine and a one-of-a-kind winery.

Viader Vineyards & Winery

Viader is very much a family business that has been around since 1986. They are experts in winemaking, and many of their bottles have received global recognition. There is a wonderful blend of new and exciting ideas mixed in with tradition. The results are splendid, as you will soon figure out if you pay this winery a visit.

Of course, we are looking at the best Napa Valley wineries’ best views, and this certainly stakes a claim. It is located on Howell Mountain, around 1,200 feet above sea level. The elevation gives you a unique opportunity to see across the many acres of the valley. This is such a wonderful height as you are really high up, but not too high that everything becomes a blur. As you stand on the winery driveway, you can turn around and peer down the sloping road you just drove up. It will both freak you out and amaze you that you have come this high up. Then, turn to look over the mountainside and prepare to have your breath taken away.

People will literally come up Howell Mountain just to take in these views. But, Viader Vineyards & Winery has even more to offer. The wine list here is very diverse and provides both current and vintage offerings across the spectrum. They seem to specialize in Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, but other options are available. I strongly recommend trying the Cabernet Franc as it is one of the best you will ever taste. To make things even better, you can enjoy these with a wine tasting on a glorious terrace. Relax in your seat and taste the bold flavors of the vineyard. Close your eyes, breathe in the fresh mountain air, then open them to see more of those wonderful views.

Unlike other wineries, Viader is a very personal place. They offer one Estate Experience, but it is tailored to your wants and needs. It begins with a long walking tour of the entire property. The owners will happily point out the best viewing spots and iconic landmarks in the valley below.

You will walk through all the sloping vineyards before going inside their caves. Once you have walked through the vast wine caves, you are taken to the hospitality center. This is where the magic happens as it is built onto a hillside. From here, you see part of the Napa Valley, along with the sweeping Viader vineyards. It is an amazing view, and well worth experiencing.

Visitors at Viader will leave feeling like royalty. Such is the level of customer experience on offer by this family-run winery. The road leading up to it can be quite tricky – particularly the tight hairpin corner leading to the estate. However, once you are parked up, you will soon realize that it was well worth the trip.

Silverado Vineyards

Silverado Vineyards has been family-owned for four generations. It was first birthed in the early 80s and has gone from strength to strength ever since. The locals recognize this as one of the landmark wineries in the area – and for a good reason.

You will find Silverado Vineyards at the top of a little hill. It is quite easy to find as you just have to look for the Silverado Trail, then follow it up. Right away, this might win the award for best views on the journey to a winery. You are taken through a winding road with lush vineyards either side and then up through a mini forest. There is something beautiful about how natural the surroundings are, and the little olive trees along the driveway are a nice welcome.

When you arrive, you will be in a vast courtyard with the main winery building behind it. On its own, this is quite a stunning sight. The architecture is very Mediterranean, and it beautifully blends in with the surrounding landscape. Make your way through the property to an outdoor tasting terrace, and the world opens up around you. The tables and chairs are so delicately beautiful, but they overlook the estate’s vineyards and the Napa Valley below. I love this winery because it is positioned with mountains almost directly in your line of view. So, as you look out, you can see the wonderful peaks of these stunning hills and mountains in the distance.

You have come here for the views, but you also want to be sure that the wine is up to scratch. Well, I can inform you that it is glorious. This winery uses very simple techniques to roll back the years and produce wine in the traditional way. As a result, you might not get that many cases a year, but you always get high-quality wines. Some of the currently featured fines include a rosato, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and cabernet franc. There are lots of varieties to choose from while you are here – as you would expect from a Napa Valley winery.

Silverado offers a host of Tasting Flights that let you try as many of the wines as possible. They also offer different tasting experiences, such as the Hosted Seated Tasting and The Silverado Experience. Both options give you excellent wine samples with views of the gorgeous Stags Lead District below.

The Silverado Experience includes a tour of the estate, and you can even go on a vineyard only tour if you wish. Still, the best option is the Silverado Sunset Tasting experience. Here, you get all the usual winetasting comforts, but on a terrace, as the sun sets. It is sheer perfection.

Silverado is a very welcoming and beautiful place to visit in Napa Valley. Whether you are indoors or out on the terrace, there are always opportunities to bet the best views of the landscape below.

Rutherford Hill Winery

Sadly, our tour of the best Napa wineries for views is coming to a close. But, there is no need to be upset as the Rutherford Hill Winery has a lot to get excited about. Funnily enough, this is a great winery to visit either before or after Silverado as both have similar locations. If you go east off the Silverado Trail, then you will find Rutherford Hill Winery just passed a luxury spa.

This winery is one of the oldest around, first opening in 1972. The owners have a passion for merlot, but they still grow other options as well. As part of your tasting tour, you may get to sample one of the many vintages they have had in the cellar for decades.

As you approach the front driveway, you can be forgiven for thinking you are in France. I have spoken to a lot of other wine connoisseurs in Napa, and they all agree this is heavily inspired by Bordeaux. The front entrance almost looks like an old French castle with huge wooden doors under a curved archway. Olive trees are dotted around the estate as well – take note, some of them are hundreds of years old.

Then, the rear side of the winery looks almost like a large barn. It is a unique construction, but it works exceptionally well. You can see stunning views during your approach, but the best spot is the Oak Grove Picnic Area. This is a quaint and peaceful area of the estate with little picnic tables available for reservation. Sit here, and gaze across the valley floor. It is a marvelous sight, and the beautiful Mayacama Mountains are directly opposite, adding to the view.

You also get a great view of the vineyard itself, along with the ancient olive orchard. The smells coming from the grapes and the olives just add to the overall French feel here. Combined with the weather and views, and you feel like you are on vacation.

They offer daily tastings at Rutherford Hill. The tasting room is gorgeous, and you can choose either Classic, Signature, or Icon tasting options. Classic is a combo of reds and whites, Signature is purely red, and Icon showcases the very best wines.

No winery trip is complete without a tour. The Cave Tour here is one of the best around. It has actually been featured in many magazines and news websites. You get to go through the massive wine cave and be shown around the place. Look at the aging barrels of wine and soak up the stunning smells. Then, your tour concludes with barrel tasting! As all wine buffs know, this is the best way to truly taste wine.

Rutherford Hill Winery is a stunning place with breathtaking views. I love the picnic area as it is something you do not see in many other places. The olive grove adds to the views, and there are plenty of tasting options and tours to enjoy too.

So, there you have it: the best Napa Valley wineries for the best views of Napa Valley! I have selected these five wineries because they showcase the region in a way you have never seen before. The elevated locations of each option give way to panoramic views that help you appreciate how vast the valley is. I highly recommend adding all of them to your list of wineries worth touring! The last thing I will add is that you should spend time figuring out how to get to each winery beforehand. They are easy to get to once you know how, but they tend to be further out of the way than the grounded options.
